Biography
Dick Preesman (1964) is a Dutch artist whose work is characterized by a powerful balance between intuition and control. From a young age, he developed a strong visual language, shaped in part by the influence of the artists' colony in Laren. He sold his first painting in 1983; since 1990, he has worked fully professionally as an artist.
Preesman’s artistic development moves from early, naive-expressive influences—related to the spontaneity of the Cobra movement—through a period of realism, to a mature, layered abstraction in which energy, texture, and composition come together.
His work is characterized by pronounced use of color and a direct, physical approach to the painting process. In his recent works, he explores the tension between order and spontaneity, where powerful layers of pigment and dynamic structures form an intense visual landscape. Each work balances abstraction and suggestion, inviting the viewer to a personal interpretation. His work is exhibited internationally, with presentations in the United States, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and France, among others, where he is currently working. With a recognizable signature and a consistent artistic vision, Preesman has positioned himself within the field of contemporary abstract art.
