Biography
Dick Preesman (1964) is a Dutch artist distinguished by a refined balance between intuition and discipline. From an early age, he developed a distinctive visual language, influenced in part by the artistic legacy of the Laren artists’ colony. He sold his first painting in 1983 and has pursued his artistic practice on a full-time professional basis since 1990.
Preesman’s artistic trajectory has progressed from early naive-expressive influences—reflecting the spontaneity of the Cobra movement—through a period of realism, culminating in a mature and layered form of abstraction in which energy, texture, and composition are carefully integrated.
His work is defined by a confident use of colour and a direct, materially engaged painting process. In his recent oeuvre, Preesman investigates the relationship between structure and spontaneity, employing richly layered pigments and dynamic forms to create compelling visual landscapes.
